Yes actions speak louder than words. And words if manipulated can lead to unimaginable actions. Imagine now the world in the making when the sole source of information is though AI . We are well on the way. The true authoritarians are drooling with excitement.
I have used ChatGPT a bit, mainly for mental stimulation because my husband refuses to engage in political conversation, and have had interesting(?) results. Fair warning to anyone, you have to be very careful about assessing any results it gives and cross check it against trusted sources because it tends to NOT limit itself to facts and will actually create things out of thin air.
For example, we were getting ready to take a road trip and rather than spending hours looking up routes, hotels, places to eat, etc., I decided to save time and query ChatGPT. The result was a very mixed, albeit entertaining, bag in which it made up non-existent restaurants (and even admitting to doing so when asked 😂). Luckily, I’m a trust but verify kind of person and did take the time to research the suggestions it made. It has also misrepresent conclusions reached in Supreme Court cases, but is always very apologetic when confronted with the facts, unlike many humans I have dealt with.
In order to get to the potential truth, you have to be willing to spend the time to lead it there, like Leah Rose did, rather than being willing to accept that since it is supposedly “artificial intelligence” it will give you the correct answer from the start.
ChatGPT and I recently had an interesting conversation related to DEI and it finally reached this conclusion, but it was like pulling teeth to get there. Conclusion: “Therefore, if we desire to preserve the Constitution and the principles of equal opportunity enshrined by the founders, DEI policies, which often focus on equal outcomes rather than ensuring equal opportunity, would have no place in the system they designed.”
Yes. But in my observation, few people are willing to do this. Being an English teacher for high school students, chat gpt use is rife in many different ways. It actually is quite time consuming if you want it to give a solid result. My students are not willing to take that time or use that energy. And in my observation neither is the general public. So they just take the first result with maybe one or two addendums and they are done.
Yeah, my conversation with Chat definitely was long and aggravating. Stubbornness kept me going because I wanted to see if I could force its TDS to give a fair and honest accounting of the facts. I also got it to tell the truth about the legitimacy of Trump's 39 felony convictions, which I plan to post about another time. The whole convo was nearly 7500 words—about 24 pages of text in GPT's outline format.
That's amazing! I also teach a business communication course for college students and I exclusively have them work with chat GPT. We compare results from identical prompts and do all kinds of experiments with it. It's an amazing tool. But as I tell my college students, in my own opinion, most people are not intelligent enough to use it well.
Yes, but then sometimes they end up looking stupid, like Anna Navarro did when she claimed Woodrow Wilson pardoned his brother-in-law, Hunter deButts, which was totally made up, and she was mocked mercilessly for it. I hate to look stupid, so I always go the extra mile to try to verify information, but I realize many people probably don’t care.
I’m very self-conscious replying to an English teacher, as I was never stellar at punctuation, so I ran it through ChatGPT to make sure I got commas in the right place.😂
Well, speaking for perhaps not the majority of English teachers, but a significant minority, I believe in evolutionary language, and if you look at Jane Austen, Shakespeare, and Chaucer, approximate spellings, grammar, and punctuation was all up for grabs. I think that makes language more interesting and nuanced. Just call it poetic license.
Wow! Thank you for all your work on this, Leah. And we have Substack to thank for helping get these alternate points of view out where we can see them.
As regards the January 6 issue, Hillsdale’s recent Imprimus article makes it clear that there is so much more to be discovered about that whole story.
Yes it's a great piece with lots of facts I wasn't aware of. I sent to friends. Unfortunately most of us are un the dark and msm wants to keep it that way. Short of lawsuits this will stay buried. Best for someone other than trump to lead the charge on disclosure. Maybe Rogan if he has not already done so.
It should be obvious that the “Biden” administration targeted the biggest minority group of ALL - white men. In fact, it looked the other way when jobs were posted for everyone but white men. Replace “white men” with “black people”, and we’re back in 1960.
Very interesting. First there was spell check. Then grammer help. Now entire thoughts and conclusions are at our finger tips telling what to believe, what to think. Scary stuff.
I know these AI are being trained by scouring the Internet, but do you think that, with a concerted effort, they can be introduced to factual information that is not currently on the internet? Can they be taught a Narrative, in other words?
No idea. I don't see how they can access networks that aren't connected to the internet, and I guess it's theoretically possible people can insert narratives? I really don't know enough about how they work.
Interesting exercise - it appears Chat GPT isn't yet incorporating the actions we are seeing in Trump's second administration. How would you have responded had Biden placed a billionnaire into a Doge-like position, fired all the independent roles established by congress to look for fraud, accepted millions in shady crypto deals, replaced all the generals with personal loyalists, etc.?
The Biden era is over yet the focus of MAGA supporters seems to be looking backward rather than applying any kind of critical lens to what is happening in real time. Do you find nothing objectionable about the way Trump and his people are going about their work?
While it's a stretch to compare the liberties taken by past administrations (of both parties) with what Trump is doing, it should be clear by now that, in the name of exorcising ideological authoritarianism of one kind, we have invited in a more virulent form of authoritarianism. Is it only authoritarianism if the actor pursues things about which you disagree?
America can only hope to be a shining light if we get past looking for a "ruler" and get back to seeking "leaders" who at least try to be wise and just.
Thanks for this comment, Dave. I appreciate your questions and know you speak for many with your perspective. I'm on vacation this week but will try to get a reply written, which I likely will share as a Sunday post since I think your challenge is worth addressing in full. 🙏🏻

BOOM. If you hold its hand and force it to think from principle, ChatGPT eventually gets there.

Thank you! This is an incredible exploitation of the insanity we have been living with! Thank you for the passion that drives you to dig, DEEP.
Keep it coming!

As you said Leah, this was evident from just observing this past 8 years of life in the USA.
Great research and essay.
January 6th was the boogie man, that failed.
Oh boy! I really, really enjoyed reading what you have written here. Go Leah Rose!!
Wow, this is a GREAT piece, Leah. I’m pretty hard to impress, but you did it.
Very interesting. First there was spell check. Then grammer help. Now entire thoughts and conclusions are at our finger tips telling what to believe, what to think. Scary stuff.
Wow you earned your keep. That was awesome. 👏🏼
Wow… scary stuff, indeed. I’m worried about AI for so many reasons. Thanks for your research here, Leah.
Well done analysis, Leah. Thank you. But it knows that we know!
Great article!!
Just remember, artificial intelligence can never overcome natural stupidity…
Seriously? Open your eyes.
