So beautiful: in thought, words, and tone. The call to individual moral humility and striving seems more than ever (although in truth, has it ever been otherwise?) the indispensable path through our present upheaval. There is more power in the simple assertion of a truth one apprehends directly than the most persuasive argument for a proposition reached at the conclusion of a logical, rational analysis. I can say with confidence that the people who read these words or heard you speak them walked away with something deeper and more lasting even than inspiration; they had an example of how to stand for something simple, pure and true. That’s the vector of change which matters: one person speaking from the heart. Thank you Leah.
And thank you very much for this comment, Chris. It is deeply gratifying and humbling to read. I can tell you it was a lovely experience overall. Happily, I received appreciative feedback from across the political spectrum/divide. That fact alone signals that the message was received as intended.
But I must give credit where it's due: before agreeing to give the speech I prayed to God: if I'm supposed to do this, please give me the words. As these were the answer that came to me and they felt like a worthy message, I took it as a yes and accepted the invite. So the praise and gratitude go to Him. I'm just happy to have had a role in something that was resonant.
Wonderful reflection on the unique nation that we are as we continue striving to be better. We just attended the annual 4th of July parade in little downtown Chester, Ca…everyone coming together to celebrate our country. Makes one happy to see the patriotism and fun! God Bless America. Thanks for your essay, Leah.

Yes—that vector of change is key! So well put.
